Overview
The choke accelerates the hot gas stream from the combustor to velocities typically between 300 and 500 m/s. Feedstock is injected in this high-velocity region, where it breaks into very fine droplets and rapidly evaporates.
Conventional refractory chokes wear relatively quickly and can affect carbon black consistency. A water-cooled choke uses high-temperature metal alloys and a cooling circuit to maintain a stable, round throat profile over a longer operating life.
