Overview
Venturi coolers are used in carbon black plants in place of older, less-efficient quench towers. They accelerate the gas stream through a venturi throat, where injected water forms fine droplets that rapidly evaporate and cool the smoke gas.
The cooler is typically installed in the smoke line before the agglomerator to reduce gas temperature to approximately 240 to 250 degrees Celsius for filter operation. The conical inlet, throat and outlet recover pressure while achieving efficient cooling.
